General Information
Women's History Month has been celebrated annually since 1987 during the month of March. It is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of women in the history of the United States. The Education Task Force of the Sonoma County (California) Commission on the Status of Women first initiated a "Women's History Week" celebration in 1978 and chose the week of March 8 to coincide with International Women's Day. The next year, leaders from the California group shared their project at a Women's History Institute at Sarah Lawrence College. Participants agreed to support an effort to have Congress declare a national Women's History Week, which was first celebrated in 1981. Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism that empowers youth to speak up and take action against Tobacco at events from coast to coast. In 2011, students will hold the 16th annual Kick Butts Day!
