Pediatric EM Elective

Currently open to Wake Forest medical students only, the Pediatric EM elective gives fourth year medical students the opportunity to care for children with acute injuries and illnesses.  Students work primarily with faculty, taking ownership of their patient’s care from initial evaluation to disposition.  Students typically work a total of 15 eight hour in our new state of the art pediatric emergency department and Level I pediatric trauma center.  Assigned readings based on the most common presentations and most life-threatening presentations are available in an intranet based site.  Students can also assist faculty in the running of a pediatric simulation scenarios for the students going through the year III EM clerkship.   For further information on the PEM elective, contact James O’Neill, MD, the course director, or Tracie Goldsmith, the course coordinator.
