Criminal Behavior

TO REPORT A CRIME IN PROGRESS:

  • Dial 911 directly to the Winston-Salem Police Department if the criminal or violent act is of such nature that serious bodily harm is imminent or likely. These incidents include situations involving weapons or extreme force. As soon as practical after notifying police, contact Medical Center Safety/Security at 716-9111 for response and documentation.
  • Provide the following information:
    • Nature of the incident and advise dispatcher that the incident is in progress.
    • Location.
    • Description of suspect(s) involved.
    • Give description of weapons, if any.
    • Give description of property.
    • License number of vehicle(s).
    • Direction of travel.
    • Maintain connection with dispatcher. They will advise you when to hang up.
  • In an emergency situation that does not require the Winston-Salem Police Department, but does require Medical Center Safety/Security, but making a call to Security is dangerous or impractical because the threat is still present: Use the Emergency Code "Doctor Armstrong". Call 716-9111 and announce that you need Doctor Armstrong at your location. Using this code indicates that you require immediate assistance without placing you at further risk by having to announce the nature of the crisis.

TO REPORT A CRIME THAT HAS ALREADY OCCURRED

  • Do not touch or move anything that may relate to the crime scene.
  • Dial 716-9111.
  • Upon arrival of security/law enforcement, provide a detailed description of property and give the names and/or descriptions of any suspects or witnesses.
