Wilderness Medicine Interest Group

WM Orientation Campout 2010

The mission of the Wake Forest Wilderness Medicine Interest Group, sponsored by the Wilderness Medical Society, is to promote the education of students in wilderness medicine topics, provide opportunities to gain skills in handling emergency situations in limited resource settings, increase awareness of formal training opportunities in wilderness medicine, and support the organization and success of the Annual Southeast Student Wilderness Medicine Conference.  In addition, we encourage students to have an active lifestyle and use outdoor activities as a means of stress management and personal well-being.

What is wilderness medicine?
Wilderness medicine topics include expedition and disaster medicine, dive medicine, search and rescue, altitude illness, cold- and heat-related illness, wilderness trauma, and wild animal attacks.
