Dr. Yount joined the department of medicine, section on endocrinology at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1948 as a Professor of Medicine. He received his A.B. degree from UNC Chapel Hill in 1940 and his MD degree from Vanderbilt in 1943. He worked closely with Dr. James Maxwell Little and Dr. Camillo Artom dealing with isotopes research. Drs. Yount, Little, and Artom developed an isotopes laboratory, which was the forerunner of a nuclear medicine lab. Dr. Yount was appointed Chairman of the Deparment of Medicine in 1952 and remained in that position for 20 years.

This interview was conducted in 1976, and Dr. Yount retired in 1984. He discusses the aims and goals of the department of medicine and the reasons for his decision to resign as chairman in 1972. Other topics include house staff, facilities, military service, and medical specialties.
