Sail Away
Steph Leger
A thousand diamonds cut into the
surface,
the sleek and stealthy shimmer with
every roll.
The last lights of the day engulfing
the crest.
All water and yet ablaze with every
hue,
reds, yellow, so brightly burning on
the cool surface.
Cutting through on the faint whisper of
hope.
Sailing forth on assumption and
admiration.
The winds are calm, but the sail
struggles,
tearing
at the seams, ripping apart.
The blaze of the sea, the tug of the
breeze
gliding forth, effortlessly, silently.
And the rage seeks forth
the fire of the water, the grasp of
air.
A sail unable to sustain forever.
Nightness, darkness, shadows creeping
in.
A fading breath of love, of possibility
the fire fading, the embers sputtering
out.
A cold, hard glass embraces the night
the breath is gone, the sail falters.
To move no more, forward ceases to
exist,
the curtain falls, the sea stills.
The sail bellows one last time,
a swoon for a breath, for hope.
Darkness envelops with a deep embrace,
ready to begin anew with the sparkle of
the stars
