Women's Health Internship Opportunities at Wake Forest School of Medicine

The Women’s Health Center of Excellence for Research, Leadership, Education (WHCOE) is committed to the promotion of women’s health and we know that the recruitment of future top-notch researchers and physicians begins at the undergraduate level of college. The WHCoE coordinates women's health internships between Wake Forest School of Medicine (WFSM) researchers and healthcare providers and undergraduate students from area colleges who are looking for projects for course credit and/or experience in women's health or gender differences research.
Winston-Salem State University: An intern is needed for a current study examining interconnections between self silencing, women's perceptions of what it means to be a "strong black woman", or "good woman" and physical activity. This pilot study uses both individual interviews and surveys to collect data. This project is looking for students who are interested particularly in qualitative research. Internship Opportunities with Gramercy Research Group
The following internship opportunities are available through Gramercy Research Group for Spring 2012, Summer 2012, and Fall 2012. Our internships provide interns with valuable experience with project planning, quantitative data collection, qualitative data collection (i.e., focus groups and in-depth interviews), data analysis, oral presentation, and abstract/manuscript preparation.
Previous interns with Gramercy Research Group have co-authored scientific manuscripts and presented at scientific conferences. Gramercy Research Group interns typically continue on to graduate school or professional programs. Gramercy Research Group interns are eligible for employment with the organization, as available and assuming satisfactory completion of the internship experience.
Internship Opportunities
1. Assist with study to increase active transportation to school among elementary school students in Forsyth County, NC
2. Assist with disseminating physical activity through faith-based organizations
3. Exploring strategies for increasing physical activity among African American men in faith settings.
4. Exploring strategies for increasing physical activity among African American children in faith settings.
5. Exploring strategies for altering the physical and sociocultural environment in faith settings to support healthy behaviors among African Americans.
6. Exploring strategies for increasing health-related behaviors among African American clergy.
