Anesthesia Services for General Surgical Procedures (Inpatient Anesthesia)

Needing surgery for any reason is anxiety-provoking. As Inpatient/General Surgical anesthesiologists, we understand this concept exceedingly well because our profession, universally, is primarily dedicated to bringing people safely and comfortably through this experience. Providing anesthesia is our privilege and the dozens of anesthesiologists in our department have dedicated their lives to its proper performance.

Rest assured,

  • Our primary concern is patient safety, always.
  • Your anesthetic will always be performed by a team headed by a board certified anesthesiologist.
  • You will have a preoperative assessment completed before your procedure that includes:
    • a thorough review of all pertinent medical history,
    • the explanation of all anesthetic options,
    • answers to all of your questions.

On the day of surgery:

  • You will be taken to the holding room and prepared for your procedure. This may include,
    • placement of an IV
    • medication to keep you calm
    • pretreatment for nausea and vomiting
  • While in the operating room, we will continuously monitor you to make certain that everything proceeds in the safest manner possible.
  • Immediately following your procedure, you will be transported to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or Recovery Room where we will:
    • ensure your safe emergence from anesthesia
    • optimize any nausea relief and
    • transition pain treatment from surgery through to your next destination
