The ministry of
compassion has been a part of the Medical Center for more than 60 years, and
has grown along with the medical center. This history and growth make the
chaplaincy and education program not only the oldest in the Southeast region,
but one of the largest of its kind anywhere.
The Department of FaithHealth Ministries and FaithHealth Education
provide chaplaincy ministry to the Medical Center. Through our accredited programs of
ministry training, we combine ministry and education, serving both the patients
of the medical center and ministers seeking to become more effective servants
of the people.

available to provide emotional and spiritual support and other services to
patients, families and staff throughout the hospital. Chaplains respond to a
variety of spiritual needs for all people, with or without a faith tradition. Chaplains serve as members of Medical
Center committees, providing expertise in ethics, spiritual care, and

Ministries are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including

Chaplains offer religious sacraments such as baptism, communion, dedications and
blessings. Chaplains also assist in contacting other faith group or
denomination leaders to provide these services.
Chaplains are available Monday – Friday from 8 am to 5 pm to
assist with Advance Care Planning. Chaplains provide education and assist with
execution of Advance Directives.

Davis Memorial Chapel
The Davis Memorial Chapel at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center was erected in memory of Mrs. Annie Pearl Shore Davis and Mr. Egbert Lawrence Davis by their family. The Chapel was dedicated on March 23, 1956. Learn more about The Story within the Davis Memorial Chapel.
The Chapel is open for prayer and meditation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is located on the first floor of Watlington Hall. In addition to regular interfaith worship opportunities conducted by chaplains in the Chapel each week, the Chapel is also a place for the observance of holy days from various faith traditions during the year and for weddings, baptisms and memorial services. The Chapel also affords a space for patients, families, and staff to come for quiet prayer and reflection.

The Meditation Room
Meditation Room is located on the second floor of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and is open 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week for prayer and meditation. Other activities for cancer patients and their families, such as chair yoga and
mindfulness meditation, are held various times during the year.

Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is
theological and professional education for ministry. In CPE, theological
students, ordained clergy, members of religious orders and qualified laypersons
minister under supervision to people with a variety of pastoral needs. CPE
proposes to study "the living human document" of both self and other,
toward the ends of more authentic and effective ministry. The Department of
FaithHealth Education offers CPE year-round in several settings and at various
levels of specialization.
