Orthopaedic Oncology

Chemotherapy is special medication designed to destroy cancer cells. Orthopaedic oncologists may recommend chemotherapy to stop the spread of a tumor, or in the case of metastatic bone disease, in order to keep the tumors under control.

Chemotherapy for Sarcoma

If you have a cancer known as sarcoma, your doctor may recommend chemotherapy. Our medical oncologist, Paul Savage, MD, is one of very few medical oncologists in the state of North Carolina who offers chemotherapy for the treatment of sarcoma.

Chemotherapy for Visiting Patients

If you have come to Wake Forest Baptist from outside the Winston-Salem area for bone or soft tissue surgical treatment, and your doctor also recommends chemotherapy, you do not need to stay with us at Wake Forest Baptist to continue your treatment. Our medical oncologist, who specializes in the treatment of bone cancers, can usually coordinate care with your local oncologist.
