Craig Greven Named Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Craig M. Greven, M.D., professor of surgical sciences - ophthalmology, has been named chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and director of the Wake Forest University Eye Center, part of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center..

He succeeds M. Madison Slusher, M.D., who had been chairman of the department for 17 years. Slusher remains on the faculty and will devote full time to clinical duties. Greven had been vice chairman of the department under Slusher.

Greven is a 1979 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1983, and completed his residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in 1987. He took a two-year fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia before returning to join the Wake Forest faculty in 1989.

Greven is currently president of the Winston-Salem Surgical Society and serves as a reviewer of a number of ophthalmic journals, including American Journal of Ophthalmology, Retina, Archives of Ophthalmology and Ophthalmology.

His clinical interests include diabetic eye disease, ocular tumors, retinal detachments and age-related macular degeneration.
