Brosnihan Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – K. Bridget Brosnihan, Ph.D., a professor in the Hypertension and Vascular Research Center of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has received the Page-Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Heart Association’s Council for High Blood Pressure Research.

The award is named in honor of Irvine Page and Alva Bradley, who played prominent roles in establishing a research foundation in 1945 that is now the Council. Brosnihan received the award yesterday during the Council’s 62nd annual meeting in Atlanta.
The award is presented each year to an individual who has had a lifetime of outstanding achievements in the field of hypertension and has served as a role model through service, research and teaching during a career typically spanning at least 25 years.

Brosnihan is a co-director of the Molecular Medicine Program, as well as a professor of physiology and pharmacology. She received her Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University Medical School and was a post doctoral fellow at the Cleveland Clinic, where Page worked. Brosnihan has cross appointments in molecular medicine, obstetrics/gynecology, neuroscience, and the Women’s Health Center of Excellence.

She was a member of the team that first established the Hypertension and Vascular Research Center. Brosnihan serves on the editorial boards of Hypertension, the American Journal of Physiology/Heart and Current Hypertension Review. She has mentored faculty, post-doctoral students, fellows, graduate students and undergraduates and contributed to the development of international fellowship programs.
