First Global Health Symposium to be Held at Wake Forest Baptist

Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center holds its first Global Health Symposium on Saturday, Oct. 23. The symposium titled "Introduction to Global Health at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center"will be held from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in Babcock Auditorium.

Chris Morrison, founder and director of the Care Highway, which focuses on improving health through medical missions and enhancing education in developing countries, will be the keynote speaker. The symposium will also include presentations from experienced medical center faculty, nurses and students who care for patients and train other health care professionals from around the world.

A panel discussion titled "The Heart in Global Health at Various Points In Your Career," focuses on improving health through medical missions and enhancing education in developing countries.

Symposium speakers from Wake Forest Baptist include Joseph A. Molnar, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Avi Shetty, M.D., associate professor of Pediatrics, Bret A. Nicks, M.D., assistant professor of Emergency Medicine, and Medge D. Owen, M.D., director of the Maternal Infant Health Program in the Office of Global Health and professor of Obstetrics and Gynecologic Anesthesia. Owens is also the founder of Kybele Inc., a humanitarian organization dedicated to improving childbirth conditions worldwide through medical education partnerships.
