Kaja Richard Wins Bench to Bedside Award

Kaja Richard, a 2014 medical school researcher at WFIRM who worked with Emmanual Opara, Ph.D., won the Bench to Bedside award at the 2014 Medical Student Research Day. The event included 52 second-year medical students presenting posters of research conducted in the past year. Richard’s project was ”Alginate Microbead Encapsulation of IL-35 for Pancreatic Transplantation.”

The Medical Student Research Program is a 9-week, full-time summer research experience for Wake Forest medical students. Selection is through a competitive process. Participants work with a faculty mentor to conduct a small research project in basic, clinical, or community-based research and participate in a weekly research ethics seminar series.
