Speech-language pathology volunteers play an important part at Wake Forest Baptist. We appreciate the time and energy that our volunteers contribute and the difference they make to the high quality, compassionate care we provide.
Speech Pathology Observers
With a dedicated commitment to education we are happy to consider students at any level, outside clinicians, and other professionals interested in Speech Pathology for clinical observations within our facility. Observer opportunities are for a maximum of 12 hours. Interested observers should contact firstname.lastname@example.org (inpatient opportunities) and email@example.com (outpatient opportunities). Of note, please contact us with at least 2 weeks advance notice so we can best accommodate your request. All students requesting formal documented observation hours for a university program are considered observers
Speech Pathology Volunteers
Speech pathology volunteers play an important part in Wake Forest Baptist's Speech Pathology department. We appreciate the time and energy that our volunteers contribute and the difference they make to the high quality, compassionate care we provide.
Volunteers are asked to complete tasks such as: make copies, pick up and deliver items within the hospital, set up for swallow studies, and feed patients (with a clinician present). Volunteers are required to register through volunteer services, attend volunteer orientation and observe HIPAA regulations. In return, volunteers will be able to informally observe speech pathology services in the hospital, ask questions; build resume and graduate school applications (if applicable) and foster relationships for potential internships and fellowships (if applicable). While scheduling is flexible, we do expect all volunteers to honor commitments that they make. This allows more observation than as single observation session (see above re: Speech Pathology Observers).
Future internships and fellowships cannot be guaranteed to volunteers who are pursuing a speech pathology career. However, volunteers have the opportunity to get to know our team, display their knowledge base and show a strong work ethic – all of which are important in networking and career building.
