Division 1 Sports Physical Therapy Fellowship

The Wake Forest University Health System Division I Sports Physical Therapy Fellowship is designed with the goal of training talented sports physical therapists to operate in the environment of high level athletics.

This is a 12-month program that will start in July. The fellow will rotate through collegiate sports in and out of season while gaining the experience of the athletic training room and a busy out-patient sports physical therapy clinic.

The mission of the fellowship is to foster professional development and to advance the clinical training of sports physical therapists. The program emphasizes the development of leadership, theoretical rationale, clinical reasoning and ethical standards to enhance skill development as practitioners, educators and clinical scholars.

The fellow will work directly with Division 1 athletes at Wake Forest University Athletics and a wide variety of athletes from middle and high school to college, professional and community sports at Sports Medicine – Stratford, a clinic of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.

Wake Forest University Athletics has 16 varsity sports as a part of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Football Bowl Subdivision.

The Wake Forest Baptist sports medicine team is at the forefront of research into the effects of head impacts incurred by youth football players and is participating with Wake Forest University and Winston-Salem State University in a nationwide study of concussion in sports that spans all NCAA divisions.

Wake Forest Baptist is the sports medicine provider for Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, Salem College, UNC School of the Arts, the Winston-Salem Dash minor-league baseball team and the Winston Salem Open tennis tournament.
