New! Emergency Care Video Visit

Unsure if you should go to the emergency department? Have a secure video visit with an emergency medicine specialist to help you decide if you need to be seen in person. Available for new and existing patients in NC, age 2 and older.

If you are advised to go to an emergency department and seek care at an Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist facility, there’s no charge for the video visit. Self-pay patients receive a discount for the in-person visit.
If you are treated during the video visit, no payment is collected at the time of service. An insurance claim will be filed for patients with health plan coverage, and any post-insurance charges will be billed to the patient. Self-pay patients will receive a bill.

Each year approximately 60,000 residents from the High Point, Winston-Salem, Kernersville and Greensboro areas choose High Point Medical Center to care for them in all types of emergencies.

When you come to the Emergency Center, you will be assessed by one of our nurses and then seen by a provider as soon as possible.

The Emergency Center features some of the most high-tech diagnostic and treatment equipment in the country. Our film-less radiology system was one of the first such systems in our region. This system represents a great leap forward in diagnosing problems quickly and accurately, allowing treatment to begin as soon as possible. Our high-tech focus makes it possible for our providers to treat everything from broken bones to complicated traumas.

A major renovation and addition to the Emergency Center was completed in 2001, which essentially doubled the size.

Our "Super Track" is an innovative new model that helps reduce wait times for patients with minor health problems like sore throat, rash, urinary tract infections and minor injuries. Located in a separate area of the Emergency Center, it is similar to an urgent care, except that emergency department resources are available to the providers who care for you.

The Super Track helps patients be seen as quickly as possible so that your treatment can be started and completed right away.

When to Seek Emergency Care

You should seek emergency care when experiencing:

Chest pain
Difficulty breathing
Loss of consciousness
Serious trauma
Severe burns
Broken bones
Seizures
Severe abdominal pain
Vomiting that is severe and continues for several hours
Poisoning
Deep cuts and abrasions where bleeding is uncontrollable
Pregnancy-related medical conditions
Facial drooping
Arm weakness
Confusion
Speech difficulty
