Chiquita McAllister - Breast Cancer Patient

January 29, 2016

Chiquita McAllister's mission in life is to empower women to explore their options when they are facing cancer.  An executive at NC A&T University, Chiquita was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010.

Although she was diagnosed at another medical center, she wanted to come to Wake Forest Baptist because her family members had had very good experiences here.  When she met with the physicians she "felt so safe" because they stressed that, while they would make recommendations, that this was a cooperative decision.  She underwent surgery with immediate breast reconstruction and has not needed radiation or chemotherapy.

She has become an advocate speaking to groups across North Carolina.  She stresses the importance of listening to your body and being proactive in taking care of yourself … and she wants everyone to have the opportunity to receive the excellent care she received at Wake Forest Baptist.
