Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

Endoscopic sinus surgery is a procedure used to remove blockages from the nose, or sinus.

Wake Forest Baptist specializes in advanced endoscopic sinus surgery for patients with severe or chronic sinus and allergic conditions that do not respond to medication. This minimally-invasive allergy treatment results in less bruising, swelling, and pain, so recovery time is shorter.

Because the nose is in such close proximity to major nerves, blood vessels and the brain, some surgeons are especially cautious and conservative when it comes to operating in this area.

At Wake Forest Baptist, we pair endoscopic sinus surgery with sophisticated image-guidance technology to significantly improve the safety and effectiveness of this procedure.

The technology uses computer imaging to allow the surgeon to view 3D images of the sinuses in real time and to more accurately localize sinus abnormalities and treat them appropriately, resulting in safer, more effective surgical procedures.
