Professional Practice Experience
- Weekend clinical coverage (17 weekends total; 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.)
- Weekday evening clinical coverage from 4 to 8 p.m. one evening per week
- Code Blue coverage from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Precepting
By precepting students as well as PGY1 residents, the cardiology resident will have the opportunity to refine their teaching skills and further deepen their own clinical knowledge base.
- Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is a rotation site for students from Campbell University School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Wingate School of Pharmacy and High Point University School of Pharmacy (approximately 160 student months per year)
- For those residents who have not received a teaching certificate, they may complete the teaching certificate program at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist
Projects
With mentoring provided by pharmacy preceptors, the cardiology resident will complete
- Minimum of one independent research project
- Manuscript for publication
- Medication use evaluation, P & T Monograph or new service implementation
Presentations
Written and verbal communication skills emphasized throughout the program including the following opportunities
- Pharmacy Grand Rounds
- Journal Club (at least four presented to preceptors throughout the year)
- Didactic Lecture at Wake Forest University PA Program
- Presentation at national meetings (i.e., American College of Cardiology)
