Programs and Services

We provide an interdisciplinary team of specialists who diagnose, treat and manage the care of older adults who are facing issues related to memory loss. In addition, we can address other problems that frequently come along with the aging process including falls, depression and weight loss. A visit to this clinic will include:

  • A comprehensive history (interview) of both the patient and someone who knows the patient well
  • A complete physical examination
  • Review of any previous records, labs and scans
  • A thorough review of all medications (including over-the-counter medications)
  • Cognitive testing
  • If necessary, blood work and a brain scan will be ordered

After all the information is gathered and reviewed, the doctor will provide a diagnosis and treatment plan to the patient and family. The treatment plan may include medications, recommendations about lifestyle interventions and a discussion about safety issues and advanced directives, and a referral to our memory counseling team. Generally, patients return to the clinic every 6-12 months for ongoing monitoring and adaptation of recommendations. Results of the assessment will be shared with the referring physician.

Research

The Sticht Center for Healthy Aging and Alzheimer’s Prevention builds upon our 30-plus year foundation of exceptional aging research through the Sticht Center of Aging, and combines the cutting edge research of the Alzheimer’s Disease Core Center. The integration of these two entities to form a single Center joins together the multi-decade-long history of research, amassed resources, national reputation, high impact publications and educational programs.
