National Cancer Institute
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Comprehensive Cancer Center has had its designation by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a comprehensive cancer center renewed for five years.
The Wake Forest Baptist center is one of just three NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in North Carolina and one of 46 in the country. It has held this distinction continuously since 1990.
U.S. News & World Report
With six specialties listed among the nation’s finest, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been recognized in U.S. News & World Report’s "Best Hospitals" rankings for the 25th consecutive year.
National Pancreas Foundation
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been designated a Pancreatic Cancer Center by the National Pancreas Foundation (NPF).
Wake Forest Baptist is one of only 3 institutions in North Carolina and one of just 42 in the country to hold the designation, which the NPF established this year to recognize health care facilities devoted to provide the best multidisciplinary, patient-centered treatment of pancreatic cancer.
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been recognized by the Sarcoma Alliance as a designated Sarcoma Center. An acknowledgment given to leaders in sarcoma research and treatment, we are one of only two institutions in North Carolina and 52 in the country to hold this designation.
The Sarcoma Alliance strives to improve the lives of people affected by sarcoma through accurate diagnosis, improved access to care, guidance, education and support.
The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit received a national award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses for exceptional patient care and a healthy work environment.
The Joint Commission
The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 15,000 health care organizations and programs in the U.S. and is recognized nationally as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting performance standards.
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (WFBMC) is fully accredited with no recommendations for compliance improvement.
In addition, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's stroke program is among an elite group of 33 hospitals across the nation to be certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission.
The "comprehensive" certification recognizes hospitals that have state-of-the-art infrastructure, stroke neurologists and neurosurgeons, staff and training to receive and treat patients with the most complex strokes.
Becker’s Hospital Review
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center made Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of “100 Great Hospitals in America.” The list is a compilation of what the monthly publication calls “some of the most prominent, forward-thinking and focused health care facilities in the nation.” (April 2014)

Since 1999, Wake Forest Baptist has been selected by area residents as their Top Consumer Choice for hospital care. The award is determined by an independent survey from the National Research Corporation based on overall quality, best image and reputation, and best doctors and nurses.
International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists
The Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Nurse Anesthesia Program has been awarded full accreditation from the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists (IFNA).
Our is the first in the United States, and only the second in the world, to achieve this level of international accreditation. This accreditation validates that the program demonstrates excellence, compliance with the educational standards of the IFNA and the commitment and support of global health and education.
Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center's comprehensive inpatient, brain injury, stroke specialty and amputation specialty rehabilitation programs have earned three-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
The certification marks the sixth consecutive time CARF has granted three-year accreditation to rehabilitation services at Wake Forest Baptist.
American College of Radiology
The Radiation Oncology Department has been awarded a three-year accreditation (through 2016) by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the nation's oldest and most widely-accepted radiation oncology accrediting body. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific guidelines and standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
