Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Davie Medical Center Receives 5th 'A' Hospital Safety Grade

Highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Davie Medical Center has recently received an 'A' grade from The Leapfrog Group.  This is the fifth consecutive 'A' hospital safety grade for Davie Medical Center.

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades (formerly known as Hospital Safety Scores) are assigned to nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals across the nation twice a year. 

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 30 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and information from other supplemental data sources. Taken together, those performance measures produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade methodology has been peer reviewed and published in the Journal of Patient Safety.

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Davie Medical Center Receives Two National Honors

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Davie Medical Center has recently received two national honors from The Leapfrog Group.

Davie Medical Center was announced today as a Top General Hospital, and in November, was awarded an A grade in Leapfrog’s Fall 2022 Hospital Safety Grades. This marks the second consecutive year that the hospital has been named a Top General Hospital and the third consecutive time the hospital has received an A safety grade.

“I am so proud of our entire team for their hard work and dedication that continues to be reflected in honors such as these,” said Chad Brown, president of Davie Medical Center. “We are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients and our community.”

Out of more than 2,200 hospitals across the country considered for the Top General Hospital award, Davie Medical Center is among only 32 to receive this distinction. In addition to these two awards from The Leapfrog Group, Davie Medical Center in June was named a Best Hospital in America by Money, and in March, as a Top Patient Pick by Business North Carolina magazine.

 

Davie Medical Center Receives Accreditation from the College of American Pathologists

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Davie Medical Center’s core laboratory has received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the world’s largest organization of board-certified pathologists and a leading provider of laboratory accreditation programs.  

Hospital laboratories play an essential role in accurately diagnosing diseases and other medical conditions, and they provide proper guidance for clinical doctors in determining the most appropriate and effective treatments for their patients.

The lab at Davie Medical Center performs a wide variety of services for both inpatients and outpatients, from bedside glucose monitoring to diagnostic testing.

“The College of American Pathologists is the gold standard for accreditation, and we are honored to have this accreditation,” said Sheila Blanton, lab director at Davie Medical Center. “This is a symbol of our commitment to quality and the highest standards of excellence for our patients.”

Hospital labs are required to meet strict standards to verify that they are providing safe and reliable test results and services for their patients. Laboratory accreditation is the process by which this verification is achieved. 

The CAP is considered to be the most rigorous choice for lab accreditation, commonly exceeding the standards of state and federal agencies, such as CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments), FDA and OSHA.

Davie Medical Center’s core laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Davie Medical Center Recognized by Money as a Best Hospital in America

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Davie Medical Center has been named as a Best Hospital in America by Money, formerly known as Money Magazine.

Money collaborated with The Leapfrog Group to compile their inaugural list of the top hospitals in the country, using data from 39 performance measures from Leapfrog's fall 2021 Hospital Safety Grades. Davie Medical Center is among 148 hospitals across the U.S. and one of only six in North Carolina to be included in the list.

According to Money, the goal of the list is to help patients make decisions about which hospitals are best for their money.

"We are committed to providing safe, convenient, high quality and compassionate care, to all of our patients and their loved ones," said Chad Brown, president of Davie Medical Center. "I am so grateful to our entire team for their dedication and we are very pleased to receive this national recognition."

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Wilkes Medical Center is also included in the list.

Spring Leapfrog Grade A - 2022

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Davie Medical Center was awarded an 'A' in the Spring 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing the medical center's achievements protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care. This is the 2nd consecutive 'A' that our hospital has received from Leapfrog.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of health care committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers.

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses a number of measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year.

Davie Medical Center Recognized as Top Patient Pick

The hospital was named the No. 1 Patient Pick, with a patient score of 91%, in the magazine's annual rankings of acute care hospitals with 50 or more beds.

December Top General Hospital by Leapfrog - 2021

Highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Davie Medical Center was named a Top General Hospital nationally by The Leapfrog Group, a health care safety and quality watchdog organization. This recognition is in addition to the ‘A’ grade the hospital recently received in Leapfrog’s Fall 2021 Hospital Safety Grades.

According to Leapfrog, the Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive.

More than 2,200 hospitals were considered for the award. Among those, Davie Medical Center received a Top General distinction. A total of 149 hospitals nationwide were selected as Top Hospitals, including 46 as Top General Hospitals.

The quality of patient care across many areas of hospital performance is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, surgery, and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication and other errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.

November Healthgrades - 2021

Wake Forest Baptist Health - Davie Medical Center is one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement according to new research released by Healthgrades, a leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions using Medicare data, provided by 16 states.

Wake Forest Baptist Health – Davie Medical Center also received the 2021 Joint Replacement Excellence Award, Five-Star Recipient in Total Knee Replacement and Five-Star Recipient in Total Hip Replacement.

According to Healthgrades, the hospitals included in the Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement have demonstrated exceptional quality of care.

This is the first time Davie Medical Center has had enough patient volume and measures to be included in this survey.

February Top 22 patient recommended hospitals in country by CMS - 2020

Wake Forest Baptist Health – Davie Medical Center has been recognized as one of the top 22 patient-recommended hospitals in the United States by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid.

This recognition is based on Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores, a survey instrument and data collection methodology for measuring patients' perceptions of their hospital experience. This list was specifically connected to a survey question answered by the respondent as “Yes, I would definitely recommend this hospital.”

Inclusion in this exclusive national list of hospitals is in tandem with other recent patient experience awards that Davie Medical Center has received.

November Guardian and Pinnacle of Excellence - 2019

Wake Forest Baptist Health – Davie Medical Center has been named a 2019 Guardian of Excellence and 2019 Pinnacle of Excellence Award winner by Press Ganey, a national patient experience company.

Presented annually, the Guardian of Excellence Award is a nationally-recognized symbol of achievement, honoring health care organizations that consistently perform in the top 5 percent in patient experience. This year’s award was given for three different areas: inpatient services, medical practice and ambulatory surgery.

In addition to the Guardian award, Davie Medical Center received The Pinnacle of Excellence Award which recognizes top-performing health care organizations nationwide on the basis of extraordinary achievement and consistently high levels of excellence for at least three years. This award has been given to the hospital’s ambulatory surgery department.
