The General Psychiatry Residency Program at High Point Medical Center is a four-year accredited program that accepts nine residents for PGY-1 training level. Our program offers valuable one-on-one time with faculty advisers, supervisors and mentors through all stages of training, as well as a variety of hands-on clinical experiences.
Residents also benefit from research experiences and have the opportunity to work with faculty members or develop their own projects.
Application Process
Applicants interested in pursuing the General Psychiatry Residency program must submit an application via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and register with the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP).
An invitation to interview will come directly from our program through Thalamus GME. Invitees will be able to choose available interview slots through the Thalamus GME Scheduler.

Application Requirements
Application requirements and information for international medical graduates. As part of the ERAS process, prospective residents will need to submit the following documentation:
- USMLE Step I and II and/or COMLEX Level 1 and 2 board scores
- Curriculum vitae
- Exchange Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification, if applicable
- Personal statement or letter of interest explaining career choice and goals
- Three letters of recommendation to be addressed to the program director
- If currently or previously enrolled in a residency program, a training letter from the program director
- Medical student performance evaluation from a Dean's office
- Official medical school transcript
- Current photograph
We recommend all applicants review the North Carolina Medical Board requirements for Iicensure prior to applying.
Information for International Medical Graduates
- All of the above required documentation
- Must be ECFMG certified at the time of applying
- Program sponsors J-1 Visas
- Cut-off date in terms of medical school graduation is five years
- No minimum score requirements, but recommend applicants review the North Carolina Medical Board requirements for licensure requirements
- Applicants should have a minimum of 3 months of US clinical experience
