A mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breast. 

At Premier Imaging, we have made investments in some of the latest equipment for detecting breast abnormalities. Our digital mammography unit uses computers and specially designed digital detectors to produce an image that can be displayed on a high-resolution computer monitor, and transmitted and stored just like computer files. The technology allows radiologists to adjust brightness, change contrast and zoom in on specific areas to help detect small calcifications, masses and other changes that may be signs of early breast cancer. The radiation dose received is very minor.

Computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) for Mammography

Our special CAD technology works as a second pair of "eyes" by automatically scanning a mammogram after initial interpretation. If the software detects any breast abnormalities, it marks them for further review by a radiologist.

Breast MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Sometimes your mammogram does not reveal enough information, or a more detailed view is needed. In those situations we may need to do a breast MRI, which uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer to produce detailed pictures of your breast tissue and lymph gland area. An MRI does not expose you to any radiation.

You get to choose who does your mammogram. In North Carolina, it is not necessary to have a physician refer you. So if it’s time to have a mammogram please call us to set up an appointment at your convenience at 336-781-4299.

Ultrasound examination, also called sonography or diagnostic medical sonography, is an imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce precise images of structures within your body. The images produced during an ultrasound examination often provide information that's valuable in diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and conditions.

Siemens ACUSON S2000 Ultrasound System expands ultrasounds beyond its traditional role. It offers superior-quality images and supports a broad range of applications including urology, OB/GYN, vascular, perinatology, pediatrics, neurology and general radiology.

Now radiologists can instantly see expansive views of internal organs using high-resolution, real-time ultrasound. This technology delivers superb 2D, 3D, Doppler and 4D imaging for the most demanding clinical applications.

This system provides patients with more efficient and cost-effective care. In some cases, the large amount of information instantly provided by the panoramic image eliminates the need for more expensive tests, such as MRI and CT.

 

 

An X-ray (radiograph) is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. Imaging with X-rays involves exposing a part of the body to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body. X-rays are the most frequently used form of medical imaging.

Our Siemens Ysio Digital Radiology System provides the ultimate convenience in imaging and diagnosis. Perhaps its biggest offering is the removable, wireless detector that actually lets the imaging source be brought straight to the patient.

You should wear comfortable clothing. The use of cosmetics or lotions should be avoided as they can interfere with some procedures (CT, MRI, X-Ray, etc). Avoid wearing jewelry.

Your physician will have multiple ways to access/obtain your results, which in many cases are ready the same day as your test:

• A written report will be prepared by the radiologist and your doctor will be contacted
• Your doctor can access our online results system
• We fax your doctor the results immediately

Some plans do require preauthorization. Check with your insurance company to see if this is necessary. Your insurance company can also answer any questions you may have about what services are covered.

Each diagnostic procedure has different preparation requirements. If you have any questions, please contact our office, and we will review the steps with you. Some procedures may require fasting for 12 hours or taking special liquids/injections prior to your procedure. Some require none.  If you have results from prior imaging studies, please bring them with you as well.

Check with your physician's office. Sometimes they prefer that you schedule the exam through their office. Others will ask you to schedule the exam yourself.
