We will review the capabilities of the occupational medicine clinics and how they can be used as a first line treatment location for your injured workers before escalation to specialty. This method will ensure our specialists are utilized when all other conservative treatments have been considered and/or addressed to gain efficiencies in patient care management.

Options for the injured worker after formal therapy.

A brief overview of what the next steps can be for the injured worker if there are still concerns about return to work following procedures and formal Physical and/or Occupational Therapies. What is work conditioning and who would be appropriate for this program? How can Functional Capacity Evaluation results reflect the worker’s ability to perform for an entire work day? What should we consider if FCE results are deemed invalid?
2:15 to 3 p.m. Keepin’ it Hip:
Traumatic Hip Pain in the Injured Worker

Whether it is performing manual labor or sustaining a slip and fall type accident, workers frequently present with hip pain and associated pathology. This presentation will introduce topics including hip labral tears, hamstring injuries, and gluteal tendon injuries. We will discuss the injury mechanisms, initial management, and surgical treatment options for the injured worker with hip pain.
3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Diagnostic and therapeutic injections for the evaluation and treatment of spine pain:
What's appropriate vs. what's inappropriate

The presentation will outline the differences between common diagnostic and therapeutic spinal injections, along with when they are typically indicated and how they fit into the evaluation and rehabilitation of an injured worker. Time will be allocated for audience participation for Q&A.
4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Rotator Cuff Tear, Treatment and Recovery for Workers’ Comp Patients

Dr. Tuohy will be speaking about the anatomy of a rotator cuff tear, types of treatment and expected recovery time. He will review initial work restrictions, progress following surgery and progression towards MMI and final work restrictions.
