The Congdon Heart and Vascular Center is unique in our region, providing a full spectrum of cardiac services in one modern facility staffed by cardiologists and cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons. We are proud to provide this facility to our patients, not only from High Point, but surrounding communities as well.
The 132,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art Congdon Heart and Vascular Center opened in January 2001. The outpatient facility is dedicated to providing patients with the full spectrum of cardiac services. The center specializes in cardiac care and cardiothoracic surgery. We provide highly skilled physicians, a caring staff and the latest technology to diagnose and treat heart disease, helping patients live longer, more active lives. Each board certified cardiologist specializes in diagnosis, treatment, education and rehabilitation using cutting-edge technology to treat cardiac risk factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking and lack of exercise.
At the Congdon Heart and Vascular Center, our philosophy is clear: patients come first. Our cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and vascular surgeons offer the latest in technology, devices and medication, combined with personalized care, to provide life-changing vascular and heart disease treatments for our patients.
As part of Wake Forest Baptist Health, we have the ability to partner with Wake Forest School of Medicine to find new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat a wide variety of medical conditions.

Our Facility
Improving patient care and service has been the main objective of the Congdon Heart and Vascular Center's development. The result is a unique,132,000 square-foot, cutting-edge facility that expands and improves delivery of health services in the region. It is the only true physical facility that can be called a "heart center." Our five-story structure, which connects to the main hospital by corridors on every floor, assembles under one roof all outpatient cardiac services, including prevention, physical care, diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation.
First Floor
The first floor houses a medically-directed fitness center and Heart Strides, our cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program.
Second Floor
The second floor houses several functions:
- Admitting and pre-registration for inpatients and outpatients
- Pre-assessment
- Outpatient imaging, including separate imaging for women's services
- Administration
Before the center opened, patients had to travel back and forth between separate buildings for admitting and pre-assessment services.
Third Floor
A cardiology pavilion, which provides all outpatient cardiac procedures, including diagnostic catheterization and coronary stents and angioplasty, comprises the entire third floor. This floor features an endoscopy lab, a cardiac catheterization lab, a vascular lab and a day hospital with 28 pre- and post-op patient rooms, almost twice as many as available in the main hospital's catheterization lab.
Awards and Recognition
In Fall 2018, Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the US, awarded its fifth consecutive "A" to High Point Medical Center, ranking among the safest hospitals in the United States.
