Biography
I’m an assistant professor of neurosurgery at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, where my clinical practice covers the full spectrum of complex cranial neurosurgery with a focus on cerebrovascular disease and skull base tumors. I treat conditions involving the blood vessels of the head and neck – including aneurysms, vascular malformations, and stroke – as well as deep-seated brain tumors such as meningiomas, pituitary adenomas, craniopharyngiomas and vestibular schwannomas. In addition to open cranial surgery, I perform a variety of minimally invasive therapies using endovascular and endoscopic techniques.
I recognize that my patients and their families often come to me at one of the most difficult moments in their lives, facing a diagnosis that can feel scary and overwhelming. I’m committed to educating each patient about their condition and helping them understand how best to navigate it. I have a thorough discussion with every patient about what treatment is best for them – and sometimes that may not even require surgery, but rather close observation or medical management.
My clinical focus includes care for patients with:
- Conditions involving the blood vessels of the head and neck, including aneurysms, vascular malformations and stroke
- Deep-seated brain tumors such as meningiomas, pituitary adenomas, craniopharyngiomas and vestibular schwannomas
I received my bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology before going on to receive my medical degree at Chicago Medical School. I completed my neurosurgical residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where I also received advanced fellowship training in endovascular neurosurgery. I then completed an additional year of fellowship training in skull base neurosurgery at the University of Colorado, rounding out a comprehensive foundation in both open and minimally invasive cranial operative techniques.
My research is focused on the management and outcomes of cerebrovascular and skull base tumor neurosurgery. Over the course of my career, I’ve authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, contributing to advances in surgical techniques, patient outcomes and minimally invasive approaches in complex cranial neurosurgery.
Outside of the operating room, I’m a proud husband and father to a wonderful daughter. Our family also includes Ralph, an ever-loving miniature dachshund who keeps us on our toes. I enjoy spending time outdoors and traveling, which give me the chance to recharge and gain perspective that I bring back to my patients and my work.
