Wake Forest Baptist Health offers a 1-year postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) community-based pharmacy residency program that is designed to provide a broad range of outpatient experiences in a progressive environment committed to pharmaceutical care and education. We strive to help our residents achieve their full potential as clinicians, educators and individuals. The program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) in partnership with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).

Three positions are available each year.

Community-based pharmacy residents experience a variety of practice sites and opportunities consistent with an academic medical center. Wake Forest Baptist has 9 community and specialty pharmacies of which 2 sites contain pharmacy care clinics. Residents also learn from experienced leaders in the pharmacy field.

Residents will train in variety of block and longitudinal learning experiences in an environment committed to academic excellence, compassion, and leadership. Practicing community pharmacy in the academic medical center environment affords opportunities in teaching, precepting, pubic speaking and research.  

Residents will care for patients in areas such as community pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, population health and ambulatory care – all precepted by experienced and board certified pharmacy practitioners. Equally important to the outstanding clinical experience is the supportive environment created by the team members at Wake Forest Baptist.
