Enhancing Cancer Care in Lexington

The Hematology-Oncology Clinic and Infusion Center at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Cancer Center – Lexington is now proudly integrated with Atrium Health Levine Cancer. This alignment brings increased access to expert providers, innovative treatments and critical resources — further strengthening our commitment to excellence in cancer care.

However, the current facility faces ongoing challenges, particularly regarding patient capacity. A high patient-to-bed ratio continues to place strain on both staff and equipment, underscoring the need for strategic expansion.

According to the Davidson County Health Needs Assessment, cancer remains one of the region’s most pressing health concerns. To meet both existing and future demand, Lexington Medical Center must continue to invest in and expand its oncology capabilities.

Bringing World-Class Care Closer to Home

Planned upgrades to the Lexington Cancer Center will give patients access to nationally recognized cancer specialists, cutting-edge technology and advanced therapies — without the burden of traveling to Winston-Salem or Charlotte. These improvements are designed to ensure that high-quality, comprehensive cancer care remains accessible right here in the community.

As part of this strategic expansion, the Lexington Cancer Center will be significantly enhanced to better support patients, families and care teams. Renovations will include 13 infusion chairs and five exam rooms, increasing capacity and reducing wait times. A new on-site lab will streamline diagnostics and improve patient flow, while an expanded waiting area will provide a more comfortable environment and serve as a flexible space for support groups, educational events and special programs. Additional space will also be allocated for supportive care providers, including specialists in genetic counseling, social work and palliative medicine. These enhancements reflect a commitment to holistic, patient-centered care that supports every step of the cancer journey.

Through these strategic investments and its unwavering dedication to community health, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Lexington Medical Center is reinforcing its role as a regional leader in oncology care. Residents of Lexington and surrounding areas can be confident in receiving world-class cancer treatment — right in their own backyard.
