The combined 2-year Investigational Drugs and Research residency provides residents with the knowledge, skills and experiences required to practice as a specialized investigational research pharmacist. At the completion of the PGY1/2 residency, the pharmacist will be equipped to practice in a variety of settings including hospital pharmacy, pharmaceutical industry, or academia. Our residency offers unique opportunities such as Phase 1 Oncology and Infectious Diseases clinical trial experiences.

Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist is a nationally recognized, fully integrated academic medical center and health system located in Winston-Salem, NC. The Comprehensive Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer hospital, meeting the highest U.S. government standards for cancer research and patient care.

The PGY1/2 Investigational Drugs and Research pharmacy residency program offers the opportunity to develop clinical, analytical, teaching and leadership skills required to support clinical trials research. The PGY1 year provides a broad range of experiences in a progressive environment committed to an advanced level of pharmacy practice, patient care and education. We strive to help our residents achieve their full potential as clinicians, educators and individuals. The PGY2 year encompasses the fields of clinical research, medication safety, leadership, regulatory compliance and quality assurance and is designed to develop expert skills in pharmacists' provision of care for patients enrolled in clinical trials. Upon completion of the program, the resident will have expertise in clinical trial design and conduct, pharmacy operations and clinical services for the research enterprise and investigational drug service pharmacy leadership within an interprofessional environment. Residents will have experiential opportunities that incorporate both didactic and hands-on learning, precepting opportunities, as well as an opportunity to advance drug research knowledge through a research project.
