The goal of the Pediatric Medical Specialties Fellowship program at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Brenner Children’s Hospital is to provide exposure to a wide array of complex disease processes in the inpatient setting to ensure the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) possesses the skills necessary to be successful in delivering excellent care. The fellowship will allow both acute care nurse practitioners and physician assistants to develop the knowledge base to care for pediatric patients at our regional Children’s Hospital and subspecialty clinics.

The fellowship experience will initially foster mentored rotations within pediatric hospital medicine, managing both acute and chronic illness of pediatric patients. Subsequent rotations would focus on inpatient subspecialties with an ambulatory clinic compliment.

The fellowship will serve as an immersion in specific competencies to prepare the APP for critical thinking above and beyond the level received in their formal education. Furthermore, it will serve to further the APP’s knowledge of evidence-based practice, basic research techniques, guideline development, and quality improvement initiatives. Overall, it will prepare the APP to be a well-rounded provider, leader, and resource within our pediatric hospitalist or medical subspecialty teams.  The department-based education will be a combination of Faculty-led lectures, Journal Club, M&M, and Case Conferences.
