When your child is sick and your pediatrician’s office isn’t available, you still have options. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist has a dedicated pediatric acute care location in Winston-Salem’s East Ward neighborhood. Whether it’s a minor illness or injury, our team is here to help your child feel better.

Led by a board-certified pediatrician, we provide the same comfort and experience you’d expect from your regular pediatrician – with a singular focus on sick visits. We offer both scheduled appointments and walk-in visits, and we’re open until 7 p.m. most days of the week, making it easy to get care when your child needs it most.

As part of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, you’ll have seamless access to pediatric specialists and Atrium Health Levine Children’s Brenner Children’s Hospital if more advanced care is needed. We’ll also share details of your child’s visit with their primary care provider within 24 hours to ensure continuity of care.

What Is Treated With Acute Pediatric Care?

We provide acute pediatric care for sudden, minor illnesses and injuries, including:

• Respiratory concerns, such as:
  • Acute asthma
  • Croup
  • Pneumonia
  • Cough
• Fever
• Flu-like symptoms
• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Dehydration (requiring oral rehydration)
• Earache
• Sore throat
• Eye issues, including irritation, suspected infections, or corneal abrasions
• Abdominal pain
• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• Rashes
• Skin infections requiring antibiotics or simple drainage

Injuries

• Minor head injuries
• Initial concussion evaluation
