Right out of high school, I began volunteering at the High Point Medical Center. That is where my pharmacy journey started, working in the Inpatient Pharmacy. I realized after working with the pharmacy techs and pharmacists, I knew I wanted to make a career in pharmacy in the hospital setting. After following my path into the realm of clinical pharmacy, I found myself back to where I started my journey. The Atrium Health High Point Medical Center pharmacy residency program provides many opportunities for me to excel as a clinical pharmacist, but also allows to me to give back to my home community. The training here will help me develop into a clinical practitioner with the goal of becoming an ID specialist. I say this without any uncertainty, that I feel right at home.

My rotations in pharmacy school cemented my desire to practice pharmacy in a hospital setting. Although I loved my time in Tennessee, I knew I wanted to come back to North Carolina for a pharmacy residency. The residency process is rigorous, but it is also exciting to explore all the options for a pharmacy resident. After reviewing what each program has to offer, I easily narrowed my focus which included High Point Medical Center. It only took an interview for me to know that HPMC has a top-notch program offering superior education and work experience. The interview process was very professional yet comfortable, which also helped in making my decision. It was apparent that the pharmacy staff cared and were supportive of each other; allowing me to feel as though I could truly grow as a pharmacist in such a welcoming environment. I am very thankful to have matched with Atrium Health Wake Forest High Point Medical Center for my PGY1 residency and I am thrilled to be home!

Hello! My name is Daniel Scozzari and I am High Point Medical Center's first PGY1 resident! I originally graduated from UNC Charlotte with a communications studies degree, but decided to go back to school for pharmacy in 2020 at Wingate University. I had 4 years of retail pharmacy experience previously, and was excited to dive right back into the world of pharmacotherapy! I also decided to take a job as medication reconciliation technician at Atrium CMC-Main in Charlotte and knew I wanted to work in the hospital setting. Luckily, I was able to carry that passion throughout pharmacy school, and matched at Atrium Health Wake Forest High Point Medical Center for PGY1 residency. HPMC's passion for pharmacy and residency is real, and I would recommend anyone considering an inpatient hospital residency apply to HPMC! I felt so welcomed by program director Ryan Tilton and staff, and love coming to work every single day. On the horizon, I am interested in pursuing a PGY2 residency in critical care and earning my BCPS.
