Orthopaedic surgeons and specialists at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist treat every type of condition—from broken bones to complex joint replacements—with advanced techniques and research-based approaches.

Our goal is to provide you with the most advanced care possible, regardless of whether your injury requires routine or complex treatment.

Our orthopaedics program is one of the most popular in the state and our orthopaedic surgeons and specialists consistently rank as Best Doctors in the area. Many of them specialize in unique procedures not performed at any other area hospital, many of which are minimally invasive. In fact, whenever possible, our orthopaedic surgeons will recommend a minimally invasive approach. Minimally invasive orthopaedic surgeries reduce recovery time, pain and risk of infection for our patients.

Highlights of our orthopaedic services include:

Joint Replacement Program

We offer one of the most comprehensive joint replacement programs in the region. From minimally invasive to bone-sparing procedures, our full menu of surgical options fits patients of all ages and activity levels.

Our orthopaedic team includes surgeons who are highly trained specialists in their fields. That means they focus on diagnosing and treating problems in only one region of the body, such as the knees, hips or shoulders.

Our team has received national awards for our Orthopaedic and Joint Program and is the first in the state to earn the Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. These awards speak to the experience, quality and safety of our surgeons and the gold standard of care we provide to our patients.

We provide expert care for acute fracture and fractures which heal incorrectly or do not heal at all. Our experts are often referred complex cases which need complex reconstruction or limb salvage. We are able to offer state of the art procedures and options not available at other medical centers in our region.

Pediatric Orthopaedics

Wake Forest Baptist's pediatric orthopaedic surgeons provide state-of-the-art treatments for scoliosis, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, pediatric trauma, congenital deformities and sports medicine.

At Brenner Children’s Hospital, our multidisciplinary team combines the expertise of surgeons, rehabilitation specialists and pediatric subspecialists to map out the best treatment plans for each child.

Orthopaedic Oncology

Treating orthopaedic cancers requires diagnostic and surgical expertise, as well as caring and compassionate surgeons who can manage challenging situations.

At the Comprehensive Cancer Center, our orthopaedic oncologists provide comprehensive care for the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic cancers—including bone tumorssoft tissue tumorssarcomas and metastatic bone lesions. We provide the same level of care to adults and children.

We frequently consult with medical and radiation oncology to ensure our patients are receiving the most advanced and complete cancer care.

Our fellowship-trained orthopaedic oncologists are considered pioneers in needle biopsies, and excel at limb salvage operations, having saved functional limbs that otherwise would have required amputation.

Fracture Liaison Service

The goal of our fracture liaison service program is to help our patients minimize their risk of fragility fractures. For patients who are 50 years old or older and have had a fracture, or if a provider feels that a patient will benefit from a bone health evaluation, our fracture liaison service could be a resource to help.
